Nightlife
AAfter not opening at all last year the clubs and bars of Marmaris’ ‘Bar Street’ have returned! This is the heart of the towns’ nightlife and you can find it at the Marina, with the entrance between Bono and Lighthouse. The street itself is full of clubs of all sizes playing everything from Turkish music to techno, R&B and more. Entrance to the clubs are free, but the drinks here are more expensive than elsewhere. If you are on a budget, drinks can be purchased from markets until 10pm and I often see people drinking outdoors without problem. Of course there are also many bars and restaurants serving drinks for reasonable prices. Whilst I’m unsure if it’s permanent, the police have been sitting at one end of Bar street every evening but I have not seen anyone be fined for smoking or not wearing a mask. I believe it’s just in case things turn disorderly, as it is hugely busy at the moment. The only thing to watch out for is that everywhere has to turn their music off at midnight so while there is no curfew, you can’t party all night.
WEATHER
It’s July, so it’s very hot right now. Over 40 degrees in the sun every day, feels like you’re in an oven hot. For this reason most people don’t go out between 11am and 4pm. This means it gets busy in the early evening, with people going to swim before sunset and then dining out after. You may want to keep this in mind when planning any activities and I would recommend reserving tables to avoid disappointment when visiting restaurants. Because its this hot, you will also find that outdoors the masks are not really being worn and the rule hardly enforced. Inside shops however they are still worn, but there is also air-conditioning to ease the discomfort. Because of its location, Marmaris can be hotter that some of its surrounding towns like Akyaka and Datça which are both known for their sea breeze.

CURRENCY
Currently, the exchange rate is;
£1 = 11.74TL
1 Euro = 10TL
$1 = 8.52TL
For perspective a 1.5L bottle of water is around 2.50TL, a burger and fries costs around 30-40TL and a magnum ice cream is 7.50TL. If you’re coming from a Western country, your money goes pretty far here, and the cash exchange places normally have a good rate available. Whilst It’s good to have some cash, most places do take card, so I would recommend something like Revolut where you can top it up on your phone as you please. I would also recommend paying in local currency on card machines and letting your bank do the exchange rate as often it can end up costing you a lot more.
