My Experience
We arrived by bike at around 1pm (I would advise you travel by taxi or scooter due to the car park being quite small) and made our way down the large bank to the entrance. Once inside I was very impressed with the decorations – they all fit the beach vibe well and gave the place a unique feel. A woman greeted us, and we were informed that we needed to pay a 200TL (£20) minimum spend per person for the sunbeds, we agreed as we were planning to stay all day and the amount was loaded onto a card. They then gave us a large beach towel each and pointed us in the direction of the sunbeds. The sunbeds were the comfiest I have sat on yet, with a raised cushioned area for your head to rest on.
The table next to the sunbeds had a QR code on, so after getting logged on to the free wifi I took a look at the menu. It was very expensive compared to most places in Marmaris, the deposit could be spent easily on one meal and 2 non-alcoholic drinks. The website itself was a bit confusing, as it seemed like you could order on there, but this didn’t work. The server initially came over straight away to ask if we wanted to order anything, but after this it was actually quite difficult to get any service – there was not really anyone going round asking if you wanted anything else. I do not know if that was normal or a staffing problem.
After relaxing for a while with our drinks we decided to have some food. There was a large selection on the menu, including lots of dishes I hadn’t seen elsewhere in Marmaris. We went to the restaurant area, sat down and waited. After it became apparent nobody was coming to see us we began trying to get the attention of wait staff serving nearby, but again this did not work as they were not looking around to see if anybody needed them. Eventually somebody came close enough that we could say excuse me and they took our order. I had ordered tacos and we did not have to wait too long for these. The portion however was tiny – 2 soft small wraps with a couple pieces of battered chicken inside and the garnishes. The food did taste lovely – I would just say for the price I expected something bigger. My friend had ordered a hamburger and it was about the size of the palm of your hand.
The other unusual thing about this place was that the bathroom was a short walk away. You have to leave the restaurant area and walk up the street till you see a sign. From there you walk into the bottom of a large building where the toilets are located. Despite this they were nicely decorated, clean and fully stocked.
Overall I don’t regret going Icon beach – the music was nice, the sun beds were comfy, the view gorgeous – however I do think it was overpriced, and I would definitely not go back just to visit the restaurant. I also think if you are going to charge that much then the service should be on point. But if your goal is to chill by the beach and take some really nice Instagram photos then this place is made for that.
