Review of Can Çapar, Marmaris

This concept store new to the Marina mixes beautiful high quality clothing inside, with a lively café out front. As soon as it opened, news spread about their amazing desserts and I knew I had to try one.

We arrived early evening on a Thursday and luckily there was one table available. Now that it’s getting really hot (35C+ every day) you’ll find most places are almost empty during the day but packed past 6/7pm. For this reason, I would recommend booking if you plan to go somewhere as busy as the marina. Whilst there is a chalk board menu of all that’s available, the ‘easiest’ way to see the menu is by scanning a QR code. This is becoming very popular in Marmaris, but honestly I don’t think It’s the best option for foreign customers. Particularly when the Wi-Fi is not made easy to access. Once I got onto their website, I also found it difficult to use as their English translation option did not change most of the words on the page, including the ingredients.

Thankfully for me, I knew exactly what dessert I wanted based on a recommendation, and I was with someone who spoke Turkish. We ordered the brownie with ice cream on top, a melting chocolate cup and a lemonade. We didn’t have to wait very long before the food came, and it was even more impressive than expected. The waiter put down the cream and fruit layered chocolate cup and started to pour hot milk chocolate fondue over the top, causing the whole thing to melt into a puddle. The other dish was also arranged beautifully with pistachio covered vanilla ice cream, banana and strawberry pieces, caramel sauce and of course an indulgent chocolate brownie. Both of these dishes cost less than 30TL (£2.50) each which I found incredible as they were large portions, quality tasting ingredients and very filling. I wouldn’t recommend eating before coming here, the dessert is a meal on its own.

Chocolate is something I’m very picky about. I actually stopped eating it when I left England because I couldn’t find anything here to my taste. But this was spectacular, and I’m glad there’s now somewhere local and inexpensive that I can treat myself.

My last issue with the place was with the live music. She was a pleasant singer, but it was really, really loud. I understand that they have restaurants/bars either side playing their own music, and it must be heard, but either there was too many speakers or the volume was on too much. You couldn’t hear yourself think, let alone speak. For me, when I go again (and I will because the dessert was that good) I will just avoid it when there’s live music.
