Best takeaways in Marmaris

With all indoor dining being closed due to Covid it’s safe to say I’ve been sampling a lot of the takeaway options available in Marmaris. Below I’ve put together a list of my favourites (excluding all the big brands like KFC, McDonald’s etc) so you can enjoy some good food and help a local business!

Pizza

Before you order a pizza from basically anywhere in Marmaris just know they will not contain a lot of tomato sauce with some not containing any at all(I’m looking at you dominos). Whereas the pizzas are always tasty because let’s be real the cheese is the best part, however it did take me a while to get used to.

Gusto

This two year old modern pizza restaurant located just off the Marina does a variety of tasty products including salads, burgers and baguettes. With their dough always made fresh and cooked in the pizza oven I am yet to have a bad experience, I always find the delivery speedy too! My recommendation would be the Tuna pizza and to make sure you ask for a lot of french fries because trust me, you’ll want them.

Hots Pizza

Located in Armutalan, this pizza place is more authentic but a little more pricey (although definitely worth it). We first ate here in the summer when we got talking to the chef and owner of the restaurant who explained that he had lived in Italy for 15 years perfecting pizza and had now returned home. He also assured us we would not want or need any condiments and honestly he was right. It tasted amazing all on its own. The portion size was also huge. Whilst the menu may not be bursting with options, my recommendation would be the four cheese pizza. Simple but delightful.

AKALİ Burger

Hiding down a street you’d probably never go down is a secondary location of a much beloved Istanbul restaurant. For a very reasonable price you can pick how many gorgeously tender burger

patties you want and then from a large variety of toppings and sauces that go way beyond your lettuce, tomato and cheese. Holding the title for the best burger I’ve ever eaten I would recommend getting at least 2 patties, with truffle sauce and some fries on the side (they’re thick cut and seasoned to perfection). The only thing to watch out for is the more toppings you add, the soggier your bottom bun is going to be.
Akali is truly one of Marmaris’ hidden gems.

Antiokheia döner

Now, I write this one with a caution. I am mentioning this because as any young person here will tell you, it is truly one of the best things you can eat at 2am full of alcohol. But, it is always a Russian roulette as to wether stomach cramps will begin a few hours later. This restaurant is famous for one product, their chicken and chips wrap with garlic sauce and costs only around £2. I do hear they have recently hired a new chef however, so only time will tell if everything stays the same.

Ekrem Coşkun Döner

You can’t come to Turkey and not at least try some Döner meat. This eatery is very simple, you pick how much meat you want by weight and then you can have this in a sandwich or a wrap. You can also get some onions in there too. And that’s it, there’s no sauce or toppings or sides but trust me when I say you won’t miss them. My recommendation would be always get more meat than you think, especially if you’re getting a wrap because you want a good ratio of döner to bread. And if you want to go full Turkish then pair this with an Ayran.

Memed Ocakbaşı

This Turkish restaurant loved by locals is a really affordable and tasty takeaway spot. Normally this restaurant is one of Marmaris’ busiest, full every night inside and out producing some of the tastiest meze and meat dishes you can find. Although their pide is far from the only tasty thing on the menu, I felt I needed to give it an honourable mention as I just love it. My favourite things to get are a cheese pide, some hummus and yoğurtlama.

All of these options are available on Yemeksepeti (Turkeys answer to just eat) but the website does add a charge so we recommend contacting them directly!
